I Learned Something NEW today.
Lifestyle means the way in which a person or group lives. This is different for all of us but statistically speaking "Golf" worldwide is estimated last year alone to have reached:
108 Million – ONE OUT OF EVERY THREE AMERICANS AGE 6+ -have either played golf (on-course or off-course), watched the sport or read about it in 2019.
- The word golf was first mentioned in writing in 1457 on a Scottish statute on forbidden games like golf, possibly derived from the Scots word golf (variously spelled) meaning "to strike or cuff". This word may, in turn, be derived from the Dutch word kolf, meaning "bat" or "club", and the Dutch sport of the same name.
- The modern game of golf originated in 15th century Scotland. The 18-hole round was created at the Old Course at St Andrews in 1764. Golf's first major, and the world's oldest tournament in existence, is The Open Championship, also known as the British Open, which was first played in 1860 in Ayrshire, Scotland. This is one of the four major championships in men's professional golf, the other three being played in the United States: The Masters, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship.
- The first every recorded hole-in-one was made in 1886 by Tom Morris
- Harvard's First black faculty member was a dentist named Dr. George Franklin Grant. He joined the Department of mechanical dentistry in 1871. Also an inventor. he patented the wooden golf tee. Previously, golfers carried around buckets of sand, placing their balls on little piles as they went.
